Obituary for John Jones McIver

 

This gentleman co-founded King-McIver, which was (and still is) the regional distributor for Wisconsin Engines for my area.

 

Mr. John Jones McIver, 82, of Deerwood Ct. died Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at his home after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro. Born and raised in Sanford, NC, he was a son of the late Robert Russell and Nannie Jones McIver. Following his graduation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1942, he served as a Lieutenant in the Navy in WWII, stationed in Alaska. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1947 and began his business career in Greensboro with Blue Bell, Inc. He and his partner Jetton King (deceased) founded King-McIver, Inc. and Arrow Equipment Rentals and in recent years he operated Pextile Enterpises, Inc. in Stoneville, NC. Mr. McIver was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and a member of the Session for many years. He also served as a member of the board and Chairman of the Greensboro Housing Authority and a member of the board of United Day Care Services. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. His hobbies included woodworking, furniture making and a love for the game of golf. He was a kind, loving, and caring husband and father who is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Borden Evans McIver, a native of Laurinburg, NC. Also surviving are; three children, Robert Gilmour McIver and his wife of Greensboro, Hervey Evans McIver and his wife Jane of Hillsborough, NC, and Ann Borden McIver Thomas and her husband Charles Sledd Thomas, III of Chapel Hill; and seven grandchildren. The family is very grateful for the care and concern provided by the professional caregivers at Hospice. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8:00 p.m. at the home, 5 Deerwood Ct. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405, First Presbyterian Church, 617 N.
